Trump Directs Government to Open the UFO Vault

President Donald Trump has announced that he is directing the Pentagon and other federal agencies to identify and release files related to extraterrestrials and UFOs, citing what he called “tremendous interest.” The move delivers on something many supporters have long hoped for, while also showing that the president is perfectly willing to have a little fun with one of the most mysterious topics in American culture.

In a post on his social media platform, Trump said agencies should release files related “to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters.”

It is not every day that a president orders the government to go look for the X Files, but here we are.

Trump: Maybe Aliens, Maybe Not

Despite the dramatic headline, Trump has been clear that he is not claiming aliens are real. When asked directly, he responded with characteristic bluntness: “I don’t know if they’re real or not.”

He added, “I don’t have an opinion on it. I never talk about it. A lot of people do. A lot of people believe it.”

That answer manages to do two things at once. It keeps expectations grounded while also acknowledging that millions of Americans are deeply curious about what the government might know. In other words, Trump is opening the files without promising little green men.

Obama Gets Dragged Into the UFO Conversation

The announcement came after former President Barack Obama made comments during a podcast interview that sparked headlines. Obama said aliens were “real,” later clarifying that he meant the odds of life elsewhere in the universe are high and that he had seen no evidence of alien contact during his presidency.

Trump reacted by accusing Obama of sharing “classified information,” saying, “He’s not supposed to be doing that.”

Then came the punchline. Trump joked that his own declassification effort might solve the problem, adding, “I may get him out of trouble by declassifying.”

It was classic Trump humor, mixing political rivalry with entertainment value.

Obama later clarified that he had not seen evidence that aliens “have made contact with us,” though he said “statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.”

The alien topic has produced some genuinely funny moments inside Trump’s orbit. Lara Trump suggested on a podcast that the president had prepared a speech about aliens that he would deliver at the “right time.”

That was news to the White House. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt laughed when asked about it and said, “A speech on aliens would be news to me.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also joined the fun, responding to Trump’s directive online with an alien emoji and a salute emoji. When the Pentagon starts using alien emojis, you know this story has taken an unusual turn.

Lawmakers Ready for the UFO Show

Some lawmakers appear enthusiastic about the transparency push. Senator John Fetterman said, “If he’s going to release all of the X-Files, I think that could be a bipartisan thing,” referencing the 1990s television series. Representative Anna Paulina Luna thanked Trump and predicted there could soon be “a ton of hearings.”

In Washington, bipartisan agreement is rare. Apparently UFOs might be the bridge.

Behind the humor, there is a serious backdrop. Public fascination with UFOs surged after Navy videos of unidentified objects were leaked in 2017, prompting congressional hearings in 2022 for the first time in 50 years.

The Pentagon created the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office in 2022 to collect reports of military encounters. So far, officials say they have not found evidence of extraterrestrial technology or beings.

In 2023, then-director Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick said he did not have any evidence “of any program having ever existed” to reverse engineer alien technology.

A 2024 report to Congress documented 485 reports of unidentified phenomena in one year, with 118 later identified as ordinary objects such as balloons, birds, or drones. The report emphasized, “It is important to underscore that, to date, AARO has discovered no evidence of extraterrestrial beings, activity, or technology.”

In other words, most UFOs turn out to be something much less exciting than Hollywood would prefer.

Promise Kept, Mystery Intact

Trump’s directive blends transparency, politics, and entertainment in a way that is uniquely suited to the moment. He is fulfilling a promise to open government files while openly acknowledging uncertainty about what they might contain.

There is also an unmistakable sense that he is enjoying the situation. Between joking about Obama, shrugging about aliens, and unleashing the Pentagon paperwork, Trump has turned a decades old mystery into a headline grabbing event.

Whether the files reveal groundbreaking secrets or simply confirm what experts have already said, one thing is certain. Americans are about to take another look at the question that never quite goes away.

Are we alone?

And if the answer is still unclear, at least the paperwork might be entertaining.
