Trump Expands TrumpRx With 600 Generic Drugs, Big Savings for Americans
A Major Expansion of TrumpRx
President Donald Trump is dramatically expanding his administration’s discount prescription drug platform, TrumpRx, adding more than 600 generic medications in what the White House says is a major step toward making healthcare more affordable for millions of Americans. The move greatly broadens one of Trump’s signature healthcare affordability efforts and fulfills a promise to lower the cost of prescription medications for struggling families.
At a White House event announcing the expansion, Trump framed the move as a major victory for ordinary Americans dealing with rising costs.
“This has been the greatest breakthrough in lowering health care costs in modern history, but we’re just sort of getting started,” Trump said, calling TrumpRx the “hottest thing in medicine.”
The expansion increases TrumpRx’s offerings by nearly seven times. The site originally launched in February with just over 40 prescription drugs, including expensive brand-name medications such as weight-loss treatments like Ozempic and Wegovy. With the addition of generic drugs, TrumpRx now reaches far more everyday medications used by millions of Americans.
Rather than simply adding more medications to a list, the administration has reorganized TrumpRx to make it easier for consumers to compare costs and find lower-priced options.
According to reports about the expansion, TrumpRx now features separate medication categories. A section called “Presidential Deals” highlights brand-name medications at discounted prices, while a new “Standard Prices” section focuses on lower-cost generic drugs. Many of these generics are sold for a fraction of the price of their branded equivalents.
Trump emphasized that generic drugs often offer nearly identical treatment benefits at dramatically lower prices.
“Cost-effective generic drugs are often available at just a tiny fraction of the price of their brand name equivalents, and in theory, they’re the same thing,” Trump said during the White House rollout.
The platform itself does not directly sell medication. Instead, TrumpRx acts as a consumer guide, pointing patients to direct purchasing websites and discount opportunities while offering coupons that can be used at pharmacies. Through partnerships with major healthcare and pharmacy platforms, TrumpRx seeks to simplify comparison shopping for medicine in much the same way Americans compare airline tickets or hotel rates.
A Bigger, Smarter TrumpRx Website
Trump also announced improvements designed to turn TrumpRx into a more powerful consumer tool.
Among the biggest changes is the addition of price-comparison features that help patients find the lowest-cost options for medications. The administration said new tools are being developed that will connect users to the lowest-priced pharmacy in their local area or allow discounted prescriptions to be delivered directly to their homes.
Trump described the goal as giving Americans one trusted place to search for affordable medications and compare prices.
“TrumpRx will feature the best and lowest prices on prescriptions used by tens of millions of Americans already,” Trump said, adding that in some cases discounted generics on the platform “may be offered at an even lower cash price than the out-of-pocket insurance costs.”
The site’s chief design officer, Joe Gebbia, highlighted a new comparison-shopping approach that allows consumers to compare brand-name drugs with generic alternatives and search for the best prices much like booking travel online.
“Now you can compare for the best medicine prices, as easy as it is to compare hotels or Airbnbs or baseball tickets,” Gebbia said.
Partnerships With Major Pharmacy Players
One of the most notable aspects of the expansion is Trump’s partnership strategy.
The administration worked with several major online pharmacy and pricing platforms, including Amazon Pharmacy, GoodRx, and billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs. These partnerships significantly expand the range of medications and discounts available through TrumpRx.
Cuban’s involvement is particularly striking because he publicly supported Democrat Kamala Harris during the 2024 election and has clashed with Trump in the past. Yet on prescription costs, the two found common ground.
At the White House event, Trump struck a friendly tone toward Cuban.
“We have the same thing, one thing in common: We want to make people better and keep them wealthy,” Trump said.
For his part, Cuban has repeatedly praised TrumpRx because of its potential to save patients money.
“Everyone wants me to rip on TrumpRx,” Cuban wrote in a social media post. “Reality is, it’s saving patients money on IVF and a few other drugs. A lot of money.” He also added: “IMO, anything that saves patients money is a win.”
At the White House rollout, Cuban praised the initiative as something capable of uniting Americans.
“Republicans want cheaper drugs, independents want cheaper drugs, Democrats want cheaper drugs and together I think we’re going to do something special,” Cuban said.
How Much Could Americans Save?
The exact amount of savings depends on the patient, but the administration argues the impact could be significant, especially for Americans paying cash for prescriptions.
Trump said some generic medications available through TrumpRx could cost less than insurance copays or other out-of-pocket expenses. Since generic medications are often sold at only a fraction of the price of branded drugs, the savings could quickly add up for families managing chronic health conditions or multiple prescriptions.
Even critics acknowledge some groups could benefit substantially. Experts noted that uninsured Americans and people with high deductibles may see the greatest advantage because TrumpRx offers another path to lower-cost medication options. The addition of more generics also creates more choices for consumers looking to comparison shop.
The administration sees the expansion as proof that Trump is keeping a core promise to lower costs and make healthcare more affordable. With over 10 million visits since launch and hundreds of new medications now added, TrumpRx is evolving from a small pilot program into a large-scale affordability platform aimed at helping Americans save money at the pharmacy counter.
