Trump Steps Into the Spotlight for Nationwide Bible Marathon
President Donald Trump is set to take part in a sweeping national event that places faith at the center of public life, joining hundreds of Americans in a continuous reading of Scripture. The moment is being framed by organizers as both symbolic and deeply personal, a sign that Trump is standing firmly alongside Christians during a time of renewed focus on faith in America.
What Is “America Reads the Bible”
The event, titled “America Reads the Bible,” is a marathon reading of the entire Bible designed to mark 250 years of the Bible’s influence in the United States. It began on Sunday, April 19, and will run through Saturday, April 25. Over the course of seven days, participants will read Scripture from Genesis to Revelation in a continuous public presentation.
Held at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., the event features readings every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time. Each hour is accompanied by worship music, creating an atmosphere that blends reflection, celebration, and national identity. Organizers describe it as a moment to recognize what they see as the Bible’s foundational role in American life.
A Weeklong Event with a National Purpose
The scale of the event is striking. Nearly 500 readers are scheduled to participate, representing a wide cross-section of American life. Participants range from pastors and political leaders to entertainers and everyday citizens, all contributing to what organizers call a “national reading of God’s law.”
According to the White House, the event is meant to invite Americans to “acknowledge our Nation’s extraordinary Biblical foundations and to give thanks for the countless ways in which God has been the sacred source of our unity and national strength.”
Organizer Bunni Pounds emphasized the broader mission, saying the event highlights how Scripture can offer guidance and healing. She said there is “so much that we can gain wisdom and discernment from,” adding that it can “heal our families” and even “heal our land.”
Trump’s Role and Timing
Trump’s participation is set for Tuesday, April 21, during the 6 to 7 p.m. Eastern Time hour. Unlike most participants who will read from the Museum of the Bible, Trump will deliver his reading from the Oval Office, adding a layer of symbolism to the moment.
Organizers made clear that his role was not случай. His reading slot was reserved as a special guest segment during a prime evening hour, reflecting the importance they placed on his involvement.
Pounds said the choice was intentional. “We needed somebody special to read Second Chronicles chapter seven,” she explained, noting that the passage carries deep meaning for many American Christians.
The Passage Trump Will Read
Trump is scheduled to read from 2 Chronicles 7:11–22, a section of the Old Testament that has long been associated with prayer and national reflection. At the heart of this passage is a verse that has been repeated for decades in American religious life:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Organizers say this verse has been invoked for at least 50 years during the National Day of Prayer and other moments of national importance. They believe Trump’s reading reinforces a message of humility, repentance, and renewal.
Pounds said the decision to assign the passage to Trump came after prayer and reflection. “Who needs to read that? The President of the United States,” she said.
A Message of Faith and Leadership
Supporters of the event see Trump’s participation as a statement about the role of faith in leadership. Pounds said, “I think he’s sending a message that faith matters in this country, and that it’s important not only personally, but for our nation overall.”
She added that viewers will notice the seriousness of the moment, describing Trump’s approach as deliberate and heartfelt. “They’re going to see how passionate he is about it, how deliberate he was,” she said. “There’s a humility on him… and I don’t believe that he would have read it if he didn’t believe it.”
A Broad Coalition of Participants
Trump is not alone in this effort. The event features a wide lineup of public figures and cultural voices, including actors like Patricia Heaton, Candace Cameron Bure, and Dean Cain.
Political leaders are also heavily represented, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Ron DeSantis, and former Housing Secretary Ben Carson.
Other participants include pastors, activists, and everyday Americans, reflecting what organizers describe as a nationwide cross-section united by faith.
A Defining Moment in a Larger Narrative
Trump’s reading comes at a time of heightened public attention around faith, leadership, and national identity. While recent headlines have included disputes and controversies, this event shifts the focus toward a more traditional expression of religious commitment.
For supporters, the image of a sitting president reading Scripture from the Oval Office carries weight. It signals a willingness to publicly align with Christian values and traditions, and to place faith at the center of national conversation.
As the weeklong reading continues, organizers hope the event will inspire reflection across the country. In their view, it is not just a recitation of Scripture, but a call to rediscover faith’s role in shaping both personal lives and the nation as a whole
