Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace: A Historic Measure for Peace and Stability

President Donald Trump has launched what his administration describes as the most ambitious phase yet of a Middle East peace effort with the creation of a Gaza Board of Peace. The new body is designed to move the region beyond temporary ceasefires and into long term stability, reconstruction, and self governing institutions. Supporters say this initiative goes further toward peace in Gaza than any previous international effort.

Why a Board of Peace Is Needed

Gaza has been left devastated after years of conflict, capped by the Hamas led attacks on Israel in October 2023 and the two year Israeli military response that followed. Although a ceasefire took hold during the first phase of Trump’s 20 point peace plan, the situation on the ground remains dire. Much of Gaza’s infrastructure has been destroyed, public services have collapsed, and basic security remains fragile.

Trump and his national security team argue that ceasefires alone do not solve the deeper problems. Militants remain armed, governance structures are weak or politicized, and reconstruction lacks coordination and funding. The Board of Peace was created to address those failures directly by overseeing disarmament, reconstruction, investment, and governance in a coordinated and accountable way.

What the Board of Peace Will Do

The Board of Peace is an international governing and oversight body chaired by President Trump. It is meant to temporarily guide Gaza’s transition from conflict to peace while remaining separate from day to day administration. According to the White House, the board provides strategic oversight, mobilizes international resources, and ensures accountability as Gaza moves toward stability and development.

This effort marks the second phase of Trump’s Gaza strategy, following the establishment of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a technocratic body tasked with restoring public services and stabilizing daily life.

Each member of the Board of Peace oversees a specific portfolio critical to Gaza’s future. These responsibilities include establishing governing institutions that are nonpolitical and technocratic, managing regional and international relations, directing large scale reconstruction efforts, attracting private investment and foreign capital, coordinating international funding and economic development, and supporting security operations and humanitarian access.

Major General Jasper Jeffers has been appointed to command an International Stabilization Force responsible for security, disarmament efforts, and the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and rebuilding materials.

Former UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov will serve as High Representative for Gaza, acting as the on the ground link between the Board of Peace and Gaza’s transitional administration.

Who Is on the Board of Peace

Trump named a seven member founding executive board made up of senior political, diplomatic, and financial figures.

Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State
Steve Witkoff, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East
Jared Kushner, senior adviser and architect of earlier peace efforts
Tony Blair, former British prime minister
Marc Rowan, private equity executive
Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank
Robert Gabriel, Deputy National Security Adviser

In addition, Aryeh Lightstone and Josh Gruenbaum were appointed as senior advisers responsible for daily strategy and execution.

Trump has also invited world leaders to participate, including Javier Milei, who accepted, and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who are reviewing invitations.

Why Israel Has Objected to Some Appointments

Israel has publicly objected to parts of the board’s makeup, saying certain appointments were not coordinated and run contrary to Israeli policy. While Israeli officials did not specify every objection, concerns center on the involvement of figures and countries Israel views as unfavorable or insufficiently aligned with its security priorities.

Israel has also expressed past opposition to Turkey playing any role in Gaza security and remains wary of international bodies that could limit its freedom of action during demilitarization efforts.

Tony Blair called the plan a massive step forward, saying it gives Gazans hope for a future different from the past and reassures Israelis that Gaza can become a neighbor that does not threaten their security.

Trump himself called the group the greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled, arguing that its blend of diplomatic authority, financial expertise, and political leadership makes it uniquely capable of delivering results where past efforts failed.

Advocates say the board reflects Trump’s deal driven approach to foreign policy, combining security, economics, and governance rather than relying on symbolic resolutions or endless negotiations.

A Trump Era Breakthrough

From the administration’s perspective, the Gaza Board of Peace represents a historic breakthrough. By moving decisively beyond ceasefires and into reconstruction, demilitarization, and governance, Trump is positioning himself as the first leader to attempt a comprehensive and enforceable path to peace in Gaza.

Supporters argue that while challenges remain, no previous effort has assembled this level of authority, funding potential, and international coordination. Whether critics approve or not, Trump’s Board of Peace has reset the conversation around Gaza and placed long term stability, rather than endless conflict, at the center of Middle East diplomacy.

  • Where are all the neighbors ?
The ones Israel needs to come to peaceful equality with ?

    • That’s a good point, but we know that there are factions in those neighbors who have an interest in chaos, not peace. Its not over yet…
